Eligor Dawnbringer congratulates you for opening Stratholme to the forces of the Light. He's not kidding; Argent Crusaders now battle the undead around the city.
Players get a sense of real accomplishment--of progress against the Scourge--that didn't exist before. Comment by Qoko I'd like to add a few things to this: since the Shattering, the quests of dungeons are now IN dungeons making access easier, yet again, perhaps too easy.
This means for Stratholme that you can accept: the Living side quests near the regular entrance, involving a quest to kill a random npc, the tabacco guy, get a painting from the bastion, and kill Balnazzar. Undead side quests from the Alonsus chapel.
This involves quests to make a portal with Banshee q-items, kill some random npc similar to the living side , kill Ramstein, and kill Aurius. The portal mentioned in the first quest DOES appear after Aurius' death, sadly, it does not provide teleportation to the entrance, EP or something at all. In a short while all of this will probably be published here but I thought I'd mention as I picked up the Deathcharger grind again today.
Comment by vkez Since the cataclysm, it requires level 37 to enter. Comment by RoboNoob This video pretty well illustrates the changes made to Stratholme in the most recent patch. Comment by Where does one now, after last patch, turn in scourgestones?
Comment by Getting reputation while doing Baron runs is no longer possible. Now you have to do a chain quest to unlock repeatable reputation quests. Recovering a book near Instructor Galford awards you reputation points.
And since you cannot move between Living and Undead sides inside the instance, you have to run to the Service Gate from the maingate in case you want to do a Baron run after recovering the book for reputation.
I havent taken time but I guess the for humans rep award compensates the fact it takes longer to run both instances. Comment by Iheartbeer A few other interesting changes to Stratholme undead side since the Shattering: You can engage and kill Magistrate Barthilas in the first room if you're fast enough There are now only 9 Venom Belchers and Bile Spewers in Slaughter Square Black Guard Sentry's now spawn after only 5 seconds or so A few trash mobs have been removed making it easier to run through without aggroing to much DE'ing blue items will now give you Small Brilliant Shards instead of Large Brilliant Shards like they used to.
Green items will give either Dream Dust or Greater Nether Essence Trash mobs give rep Gilneas in my case, as I was wearing the tabard while bosses give 60, though for some reason Rammstein only gives Comment by Kanariya Stratholme is mostly constructed behind its instance portal, though with several differences from its instanced version, including an area behind the raid portal within containing a ziggurat, and an uni-texture floating necropolis that looks very identical to Naxxramas, complete with a teleport hub underneath.
This has existed within the game since while in alpha, and you can still see the grey alpha-Naxx right from the gates of Strath with adequate view distance. It seems the whole idea of incorporating it directly inside the dungeon was scrapped before release, yet it still remains today.
Comment by kintotech As a warning to anyone attempting to stealth run this: A -lot- of the undead mobs can see through stealth, especially in the undead side. There's some on the Scarlet side as well, but they're easier to avoid, imho. Comment by oregac Question: I've not run this instance in a while. Since, perhaps, , but I no longer get the debuff when I start the gauntlet. Has this changed or do I have to put it on a different setting?
Comment by darkfir in the back of the gauntlet, where the argent paladins come from after you kill the last boss, there is a raid portal behind a closed gate. Mostly have a mixture of greens and blues with a purple Skullflame shield. For the areas where the gates come down, any AoE is of course, your best friend. Constantly used Thunder Clap and Cleave throughout the entire instance. I had no problem progressing and killing everything bit by bit from the living side first, then the undead side, just that it took awhile hours I think.
For whatever reason, the skull in yellow before the cathedral on the living side seemed to never spawn a boss. Perhaps it got killed with ghouls and skeles in the mass of mobs around that area and I didn't notice but indeed, I couldn't tell anything unique about that mob from others if there is any. For the undead side, I had no problems opening the gates from killing the bosses of each ziggerut and the few casters inside the towers. You'll know as each shouts that a crystal has been destroyed.
For Timmy, I simply popped all cooldowns and kept up bloodrush and any other skill I could use as soon as I had rage to use it. Concerning the glitch in the abomination room past the portculli, I don't know if it still exists but now that I recall, I did run in closer to the walls first and killed the abominations furthest from any others so I'd prevent linking.
I didn't happen to see any that moved to the gate; they all seemed to roam in circular patterns around the square maybe I didn't give it enough time. Either way I had no problem killing them all and fought the good fight the first time but couldn't down Ramstein. Second go I had a dire lack of instant slams and he seemed to pound me even easier.
Third time though I had a good amount of slams, along with firing every cooldown I had and that was just enough to defeat him. From there thankfully I had enough health to AoE the skeleton masses down just fine and the guards after were barely stronger than the regular ghouls so they went down fine.
From there in, the rest of the dungeon was not too hard. Usually I just fought them in the packs they came in at a time and it went fine with the ocassional food or potion. Filled my bags easily and due to picking up a purple enchanting scroll, a few orbs, and lots of green and blue NPCable items, probably made out with gold not counting what sells on AH.
Good money if you just have time to run the place in full. Also killed the postmen. The packages and the mobs themselves gave me a toy, a mayor proclimation of some sort unreadable , and some other parchment that seemed to be junk.
The postmaster gave seemingly a decent blue item but nothing spectacular for the upper 60s by that point. Hope this helps ;. The only creeps considered alive on this side now are the quest NPC's.
Prior to 4. A full clear on just this side could net you anywhere from 1 - 10 Righteous Orbs , and 7 - 10 Large Brilliant Shards. Twice, and only twice, was I lucky enough to get a full 10 Righteous Orbs in one run Burning Crusade.
My average was 1 - 3 orbs per run, but I could net more on a particularly RNG happy day. Thus, why I am stating it. Runecloth was also in abundance, and the greens could be disenchanted and would give anything from Illusion Dust to Lesser Eternal Essence and Greater Eternal Essence.
Now in 4. The Service Entrance , also known as ' Dead Side ' - we were so creative back then - and the Main Gate are no longer connected. To facilitate the change, the previously perma-closed front gates have now been opened. The creep levels have been lowered considerably, and with them have gone the loot levels.
The only cloth I gained in both runs was Mageweave Cloth. For those leveling their tailoring through the Mageweave stage, this instance is a far cry beyond what Uldaman ever was in my personal opinion. Folks who are looking to get their Crusader enchant materials will still need to come here for the Righteous Orbs, but it's no longer a valid place for Large Brilliants.
You'll want to head to Blackrock Spire. Sub-Note: This was run with a 65 and 85 DK. It took 14 minutes for both runs together. It's perfectly soloable at 65, I just had the company for fun. Comment by Nepturion im getting angry at this place, when im inside i followed the map heading east.. This must be a bug or poor information given here. Do you need to collect or unlock the gates to the dead side? Comment by Runemonger I found a raid entrance near the last boss on the dead side of stratholme, Its separated from us by an non interact-able gate.
Perhaps the entrance to old raid stratholme? Old Naxxramas? Or maybe something we haven't even heard of, given up on by blizzard? The world will never know. Comment by MiltiadesBooga This place is grim, grim, grim.
If you turn up your brightness and look closely you will see the remains of burnt people --they're smouldering, seriously. When someone hits you with a hammer that big, you go splat quick on your face. No, these statue-like people can really only be the ones who who ran afoul of a peckish Mal'Ganis before Arthas could get to them. Remember how Tichondrius eating souls ignites people?
Comment by Qoaleth There are a number of profession recipes that are unique to Stratholme. All of the following recipes are Bind on Equip BoE and so therefore could also be potentially found on the Auction House.
While farming these recipes you can also work on completing the achievement Exalted with Argent Dawn by means of a repeatable quest that is accomplished in Stratholme. See this comment for full details on how reputation gains work for the Argent Dawn post-Cataclysm. Comment by Vesuvius79 Im a lvl 85 Death Knight and farming the "dead side" for the mount the end boss has a chance of dropping.
Once you've finished the instance, simply use your Death Gate and take a quick flight to Northpass Tower, you are very close to the service entrance to go for another run through if you fancy. Your Death Gate makes it easier than running back to the start. Comment by Noradri I solo'd this as a 68 blood dk to up my rep in Pandaria Sp?
Lemme tell you, it was pretty fun. I did the 'Alive Side' first and that took a bit, but no problems. And then I did the 'Dead Side'. I was all about getting the mount drop and did it rather quickly. Sad to say, I didn't get it But anyway. I basically spammed and Death Strike for both. Not at full health or one on one? Death Strike Yeah. I also used Unholy Blight a couple times And for a quick kill I did Death Siphon So.
It was rather easy for me. I have yet to do it for my other classes, so we'll see. Comment by adammartin13 I believe this place was supose to be its own area instead of a dungeon. Open up your eastern plaguelands map and notice how you cant interact click the area thats in between eastern plaguelands, western plaguelands, and ghostlands. Comment by worthit Just a little info You can enter this dungeon on foot at lvl Main Gate You can queue this dungeon as specific dungeon lvl In the specific dungeon finder, this dungeon is orange difficulty lvl , yellow difficulty lvl and green difficulty lvl You can queue this dungeon as random dungeon lvl You have to be lvl 42 to obtain the quests.
Service Entrance You can queue this dungeon as specific dungeon lvl You have to be lvl 46 to obtain the quests. See more in this guide. Comment by aprildawn I wanted to try for the mount, but it's been ages since I've run Stratholme and I had forgotten the area. I'll share the info that would have saved me some time. A lot of the posts on this thread are old and confusing, in reference to the two separate instances. To try for the mount: The entrance to the dungeon is in the north central part of Eastern Plaguelands -- labeled "Eastwall Gate" on the map 43, Once you are in, it's pretty straightforward.
However, the gate that leads to the final two bosses is closed. Make sure to clear the rooms behind the first three bosses in order for it to open. The mount drops on the final boss. Comment by never00 Stratholme Dead Side is one of the best places to farm Mageweave Cloth, but nothing else other then the Mount drop.
Though there are a lot of mobs, many drop only trash or nothing at all. Trash loot is a problem as there is a lot of it. Even with empty bag spaces, I could only make two runs at a time due to the trash. So expect to either be dumping greys from your bags, or making trips to Light's Hope Chapel or Northpass Tower to sale. The closest mailbox is the Chapel. We averaged less then 6 greens per trip, and 4 of those are bind on pickup. Leaving 19 left to either pass to alts or put on the AH.
Another issue is that some of the mobs can root you, which is annoying to melee. But there are no mechanics or painful threats to worry about. We did pick up a whole bag full of recipes, many of which are not listed in Wowhead's loot table for the zone. I am planning a few more runs later to see what else drops. Comment by Thebe2 I didn't see it anywhere, but main entrance Live Side is at Dead Side is at 43 19 as posted. Comment by RedDawnPatrol This might sound a little silly but it is quite easy to miss most of the quest givers as you enter the dead side of Stratholme from the service entrance via the dungeon finder tool.
This is particularly the case if your group have done the quests previously and are just rushing ahead to The Gauntlet area. On your right there is an entrance to a chapel which you have to enter to speak to most of the quest givers for this instance.
You cannot see the quest givers unless you actually enter the chapel itself. If you miss this entrance you cannot complete any of the quests apart from Liquid Gold which is given right at the start of the instance. Comment by bonho On the undead side of Stratholme, I personally find that it's faster to actually go to the left Ziggurat first with the nerubian then doubling back to kill the Banshee rather than killing the Nerubian last as it means you can skip the gate.
It is possible to skip the gate however if you have something to cross a large distance fast Heroic Leap, Blink, Flying Serpent Kick etc. Comment by aph0tikzone A lot has changed about the instance as of 6. Level 's can solo it easily and may never have done it before. Always present but hard to see, especially if you're looking for a red name. Timmy the Cruel Spawned after opening 3 mailboxes. Final Boss: Balnazzar.
Comment by nurseferatu Please note: Stratholme achievement is currently bugged and is NOT awarding for completing both sides. Each boss grays back out as you complete the opposite boss and the achievement never dings. This is documented in comments on the achievement page but has not been mentioned here. Would have saved me several hours of rerunning this darn thing repeatedly! Comment by Ivanya As an update to many comments on here, my latest ticket did not answer with a bot response.
I'm including it below so you can see that Blizzard is aware of this issue and the problem with Dire Maul as well. Currently, with both dungeons now separated, there is no way to get the dungeon achievement in either one, and that means the larger achievement for all the dungeons on a continent is not possible.
They will check the logs on your character and award the achievement if you put in a ticket for each character. Make sure the logs are not older than 45 days tho. My priest ran Dire Maul in December, but it didn't show up on the logs.
Anyway, here's the ticket response I got. Game Master Luikper here to assist you today. I understand that you where not able to complete the achievement for Stratholme or King of Dire Maul due to it reseting!
Our Dev Team is currently aware of this issue and is working on getting this fixed! However, while they are looking into it further we are able to assist in granting the achievement after we have obtain verification! With that being said, I took a look at the logs and did see that you have downed both bosses need for Stratholme, with that being said, I granted the achievement for XXXX!
I also noticed that you had a friend in the group, please let them know that they will have to create their own ticket, and to have them reference your ticket XXXXXXXX to get the credit for Stratholme as well :. Comment by fiercefiona I just ran this twice, and could only get credit for 4 out of 5 Black Guards at the end, so no completed dungeon.
Comment by Rillae Received Stratholme dungeon completion today. It had been glitched and I never got it when I did the dungeons before. Got after completing main entrance of Stratholme. Comment by Swemage Vanilla Naxx in patch 6. While this guide will focus on using a Druid a Rogue will also work. This will cause you to lose your Prowl , but if you shouldn't be attacked by the nearby mobs.
Activate your Prowl ability. Activate Prowl , and again, move around the mobs that are on the stairs in front of the corpse of Maleki the Pallid. Activate Prowl and travel through the gates in front of, and slightly to the left of you where you ran through using Dash a moment ago at coords Take the fork to the left, and travel to a gate at coords Once in Slaughter Square, round up and kill 9 Venom Belcher mobs.
NOTE: While in Prowl , avoid as much of the trash as possible as you want to maintain your speed increase that goes along with Prowl. Comment by Reddervish While my main objective is to start farming for the Deathcharger mount, I also am working on reputation when possible. Let me make it clear, because It caused me more than a little confusion.
The area of Stratholme which you you need to run to get the reputation for Argent Dawn is the live side. That said, In less than an hour of repetitive runs rep per run of the live side will take you from revered to exalted with Argent Dawn. That may make it one of the easiest exalted reps in the game. Back to the mount. And, I hang my head in shame, I was using my hunter pet to help clear mobs and when I got to Rivendare for the mount drop chance my L pet killed him before I got a shot off.
Well, now I know the layout of the dungeon and will have another few runs thru later. Comment by Dragonzero I'm tired of see missing 2 bonus objectives during leveling and that mostly players from random dungeon didn't know or where is those 2 missing.
Here is the path to gain massive xp for never miss bonus objectives. Also noticed Hearthsinger Forresten is alway show up every time when enter the dungeon and he has 4 locations behind 2 gates 2 before kill The Unforgiven and 2 after it.
Postmaster Malown is come from summon when open 3rd time mailbox and there is 4 mailboxes in Main Gate instance. At the Main Gate, so starting is 1. Go around to left for tobacco quest and also open 1st mailbox next to create also sometime Rare Npc Skul spawn there near cart 2. Afterward go back, also there is 2nd mailbox near left gate Rats Trap and do not go through left gate that imo for wasting times for waiting on gate to open 3. Go back then enter right gate then finding Hearthsinger Forresten also Skul spawn there sometime too on the way to kill The Unforgiven 4.
After killed The Unforgiven and there is another 3rd mailbox on left side for summon Postmaster Malown if u want to open it now or there is another 4th mailbox in next area 5. Kill Timmy the Cruel on the way to back after clearing trash 6.
To next area filled npc undead scarlets and there is 4th mailbox next to stair on left side for summon Postmaster Malown if u skipped 2nd or 3rd mailbox 7. Go through 1st Door at the stair, clear 2 halls and stop there, Commander Malor is in the small room on left 8.
Clear next and head to next 2nd Door then go down the stair then on the way to kill Willey Hopebreaker 9. Go back to where u open 2nd Door then clear and open 3rd Door then clear halls At the end, there is 2 boss on both side, 1st kill Instructor Galford and quest in small room on left side Final is kill last boss Balnazzar Congratulation for completed all bonus and all quests.
Comment by Zayon if you are farming the mount the gate entrance you are looking for is at 47,17 Eastwall Gate on the map Eastern Plaguelands Goodluck farming. If Chromie Time is enabled, Stratholme's level range is Live and Dead , but can only be queued if you're using Chromie Time on the Cataclysm expansion. Check more information on Chromie Time in our guide!
Hearthsinger Forresten — The Culling of Stratholme claimed the lives of innumerable people whose only crime was being in the doomed city. A traveling singer and piccolo player named Forresten was one such victim. He continues to wander the city in death, unable to accept his tragic fate. Timmy the Cruel — Timmison was infamous for his savagery on the field of battle.
Some speculate his sadism stemmed from the ceaseless bullying he endured as a child. Now reborn as a Scourge monstrosity, his mind shattered, he is tormented by those memories, causing him to answer to the name he once loathed: Timmy. Commander Malor — Malor and a handful of other courageous warriors risked everything to protect the Scarlet Bastion from being desecrated by the undead.
Tragically, they failed. Balnazzar corrupted the fearless commander into one of his servants, transforming the zealot into a mockery of his former self. Willey Hopebreaker — Balnazzar took great pleasure in leveraging the cannon master Willey's destructive capabilities in undeath, calling his prized minion by the name of Hopebreaker.
The dreadlord relishes that he has twisted Willey and other Scarlet Crusaders--who so despised the undead in life--into his unwitting pawns. Instructor Galford — Galford once took great pride in caring for the Crusade's most valued documents. However, as he lay dying, he watched in horror as his precious tomes were burnt around him.
Balnazzar used this painful memory to imbue his servant with the fiery power that ravaged Galford in life. Balnazzar — Balnazzar has never tasted true death, but he has suffered bitter defeat. After the Cataclysm rocked the world, he slaughtered the Scarlet Crusaders in Stratholme and transformed them into the undead creatures they once hated. The dreadlord now plots his machinations for vengeance upon Azeroth.
The Unforgiven — Lylia was a blade of righteousness among her people. After Arthas commanded his forces to purge the city, her sanity was ripped apart from seeing countless innocents die by her hand. She fell on her sword to escape the madness around her, and she now exists as a spectral being forever denied absolution for her heinous acts. Baroness Anastari — While she lived, Anastari took what she wanted, no matter the cost. Death has done little to change that.
Her soul ripped from her body, Anastari became a banshee, and she has abandoned her love of material trinkets in favor of possessions of a far more sinister kind. Nerub'enkan — Nerub'enkan was a fearsome warrior during the War of the Spider. Ultimately, she succumbed to her wounds and was raised into undeath as an obedient minion of the Scourge. You will need the City Key to be able to open the gate to the dungeon.
Living Side A :. Stratholme map: as introduced in the presentation, this dungeon is basically divided into two parts. Scarlet Side or "Live Side". However, both "sides" are part of the same instance and players can complete both tracks.

Dungeon Entrance: Everything you need to know about the Stratholme Dungeon entrance is mentioned in this guide. The second part of the dungeon is accessible from a secret passage. Stratholme is a human city that is located at the top of Eastern Plaguelands which is populated by various creatures of the undead. It was a city of humans before and long ago, Prince Arthas Menethil attacked and allegedly killed the inhabitants. Arthas attacked the place because he had heard that the place was being infected with the Scourge virus.
Culling of Stratholme dungeon recreates the assault on Stratholme by Arthas and reveals Arthas was right about the place.. On the world map, there looks like a zone to the north of Stratholme, don't be deceived, there isn't one.
It is the only area that is blocked off from players accessing by an invisible wall. If you fly above Stratholme, nothing will happen, there's no secret easter egg.
The developers might do something with in the future but for now, there's nothing. There are a total of 13 bosses in this instance and they are listed below in order of encounter as you progress through the dungeon. There's no register feature and no need to give an email address if you don't need to.
